The collection consists of eight items: two letters and a postcard to Lutz Wertmann, ca. 1952, concerning Wertmann's interest in Spender's works; letter to Friedman, 9 April, about getting time and materials for a project he was working on; to Mr. Owen, 16 April [1951?], concerning a translation from the German poet Frank Wedekind he had been working on with Mrs. Faucett; corrected typescript of the poem, Late Stravinsky listening to late Beethoven, to Sacheverell Sitwell, signed by Spender and dated 8 June 1977. Also, handwritten copy of Spender's poem Lines for Edith Sitwell, inscribed for Frederic Prokosch, 28 April 1943; corrected proof for booklet, Three versions from the German, a limited edition to have been published for Spender's friends for Christmas 1955.

Sir Stephen Harold Spender (February 28, 1909 - July 16, 1995) was an English poet and novelist who worked with the themes of social injustice and class struggle. Spender was born in London and educated at University College, Oxford. He was mentored by W. H. Auden with whom he maintained a life-long friendship.
